MINT funding for the Stellarium Gornergrat
The Stellarium Gornergrat is the first pedagogical observatory in Switzerland. This young and innovative project brings professional astronomical hardware directly into the classrooms and homes of the interested public via web portal and robotization. For this purpose, we have set up modern hardware on the Gornergrat above Zermatt, at one of the best locations for astronomy in Central Europe, which enables autonomous operation via a web portal. This project has now been operating successfully for several years and has grown steadily.
In autumn 2021, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences accepted an application from the Stellarium Gornergrat for funding under the MINT (Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Technology) programme 2021 – 2024. With the spoken MINT support, we will improve our existing German- and French-language offer in a first step and work on this subject-didactically. Activities that have already been started will be finalized and synchronized between the two languages. In a second step, we plan to significantly expand our offer and extend it to the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. The Stellarium Gornergrat team appreciates this partnership and the financial support.
