Extreme band width in data connection over satellite with laser technology
In 2022, Thales Alenia Space Switzerland and France, together with the ETH Zürich and other institutions, carried out a project at the Jungfrau East Ridge as well as at Zimmerwald. The project aimed on the development and demonstration of the relevant key technologies for satellite communication to enable scalability of GEO (geostationary Earth orbit)-to-ground and vice versa optical feeder links towards and beyond 1 Tbps. Optical feeder links are considered as a promising technology to meet the future VHTS (Very High Throughput Satellites) system requirements instead of radio frequency links.
