Prof. Dr. Eliza Harris
New Director of the High Altitude Research Stations Jungfraujoch + Gornergrat
Eliza Harris completed her PhD in Atmospheric Science at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in 2012 and then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at MIT, Empa and the University of Innsbruck. In 2020, she joined ETH Zürich’s Swiss Data Science Center as a senior scientist and completed her Habilitation in Biogeosciences. Her research centers around the use of novel isotopic measurements and modelling approaches to understand trace gas sources and sinks. She is particularly interested in applying data science and machine learning to analyse, understand, and predict results.
Eliza Harris will start her work for HFSJG on September 1, 2024 and work together with Markus Leuenberger until January 31, 2025. From February 1, 2025, on, she will officially be the new director of the High Altitude Research Stations Jungfraujoch + Gornergrat, as well as Professor at the Climate and Environmental Physics department at the University of Bern.

Resigns as Director of the High Altitude Research Stations Jungfraujoch + Gornergrat
Markus Leuenberger will retire as Director of the High Altitude Research Stations Jungfraujoch and Gornergrat on January 31, 2025. By then he will have been the Director HFSJG for the last 15 years, as he took over office from Erwin Flückiger in 2010.
