Visit at Jungfraujoch

On April 2, 2026, Prof. Jean-Paul Kneib of EPFL visited the research station on the Jungfraujoch, accompanied by a delegation from Zhejiang Lab in China and representatives of the Chinese Embassy in Bern. Jean-Paul Kneib, who also served as a guest speaker at our 2025 board meeting in Interlaken, heads the Swiss consortium that is part of the international “Event Horizon Telescope” collaboration, which connects radio telescopes around the world.

This cutting-edge scientific project, the “next generation Event Horizon Telescope” (ngEHT), aims to push the boundaries of the radio universe by creating the highest-resolution telescope array on Earth. Numerous international sites are under consideration as locations for new telescopes and the Swiss Alps would fill in a critical geographical gap meeting key requirements for elevation, weather, and existing infrastructure. Currently, we are discussing if Gornergrat can join this revolutionary science effort.
